Toddler Talk Thursdays!! June 30, 2011

Yesterday, Alan hopped on a hopper ball for the first time ever! You know, like the ones with the handles on them? He looked so cute! I was so proud lol! :) Today we will be going to get our oil changed in our Cadillac for our camping trip. I am a little anxious about having Alan there with me for the duration of the oil change, in the super small MasterLube lobbey with no doors! And the heat uggggh. Its supposed to be 80 degrees but we were already woken up this morning by the heat. It feels like it might be 90 degrees out there now. Blah wish me luck! I'm gonna need it! :)

Here's Toddler Talk Thursday!!

Sippy Cup Mom

This week's topic:
Emergency Kit for your babysitter. Do you have one? What is yours?

Lon and I are pretty picky when it comes to babysitting. He has ONE babysitter his whole life, and that is my mother. My sisters and brothers will help out but she is the babysitter.

We don't let any random person watch Alan. He has never been watched by a young teenage girl, which is weird as I used to be a babysitter in middle school. But still, these days I have heard too many horror stories about babysitters doing unknown things to the kids they watch. And this incident in Great Falls recently has really hit us close to home. :\ That poor little girl. This has only amplified my feelings about babysitters and how I HAVE TO KNOW THE PERSON REALLY WELL!!!! Like have grown up with them or have them be family, but even then...

Lon and I have given up our social life for Alan's safety. We don't go out on dates, we don't go out to drink, we just don't go out, unless he is with us. For example I will be turning 22 in less than a month, and I have only legally drank two times ever. For my birthday and for Lon's birthday. I didn't even drink at my wedding or wedding reception. Its a sacrifice, but one of the most important sacrifices I have ever made. :)

Anyways, back to the question. I do not have an emergency kit for my mom when she babysits Alan but that is only because she babysits him at her house, where she has access to her own emergency kit. I do, however, have a emergency phone number list that I gave my mom a long time ago. It has mine and Lon's numbers, as well as Alan's physician's number, Ask a Nurse's hotline and even the hospital.

What does your Emergency Kit look like????

Idea for next week's topic:
How did you celebrate Independence Day with your toddler?

This Mama currently...

Found this on Words by Katie's blog and I thought I'd play along this morning. Today is another hot and busy day, I have my Preschool art class today (and art show!) and then I work 2 to 8 in Child Watch. Blaaaah! Last night after Alan went to bed, Lon and I went out on our roof and sat out in the night for a while. :) It was nice, just still really stinking hot! But then it got darker and it cooled down, and it was just perfect! We might do it again tonight, I only hope its not hot tonight like it was last night!

This Mama Currently is...

Listening... to Alan's squeals of joy as he runs and plays throughout my house. Oh and the two rivaling tvs lol. :)

Eating... nothing. Still contemplating what I'm gonna make. Maybe just eggs and toast? We're all out of bacon.

Drinking... Dr. Pepper. Still trying to keep up with Alan's energy level lol, and I don't drink coffee.

Wearing... my Rockin Rudy's t-shirt, bra and undies. Its too hot outside right now f
or pants. :P I'll put some on later.

Feeling... pretty good right now. Woke up like an hour ago, and got a lot of rest last night. :) Can't say the same about Alan and Lon though, they are apparently starving for breakfast! Gotta get the motivation to cook some darn breakfast for these wild boys!

Weather... is a nice 78 degrees right now, but the forecast says it could get as hot as 94 degrees today! Yowza! :D

Wanting... Saturday morning to get her fast! I wanna get on the road! And go to Canyon Ferry Lake pronto!

Needing... groceries, more money, Saturday to come faster lmao??? I am starting to think that I actually *need* this vacation, for my mental state lol.

Thinking... about a million and two things right now. As usual lol.

Enjoying... spending time with my boys, like always. :) Every moment with them is amazing and beautiful. I am so blessed. <3

Fourth of July Plans

I know that I have posted about our plans for the fourth on here before, I think its just been on a blog hop or something. I thought I had already written a whole post on it before, but alas I haven't. So here you go!

We are going camping at Canyon Ferry Lake for the fourth. This is tradition with my side of the family to go camping here every year. Last year we went up for a few days, and had a wonderful time! Alan loves to see his family and camp with them! He loves being outdoors!

We will be leaving this Saturday morning, around like 11 am and will not be back until Monday night, around like 10 or 11 pm. I will not be taking my laptop with me, nor will I probably have service, so I will be absent from the blogging world for a while. But I plan on keeping a notebook "journal" for each day, so I remember our daily events! I can't wait to bring back many stories and hopefully pictures, I will probably have to do a week marathon of posts! I will not be participating in Meet Me on Monday or Motivational Monday this next week, and I will post my Month in Review: June 2011 post on July 5 instead of the first.

I am very excited to take a vacation from the social world, there has been a lot of drama in my real and online life. I plan on waking up early each morning, to meditate and watch the sun rise. I know I will enjoy and love and cherish every single moment I spend with my family and loved ones. I cannot even explain to you how much I look forward to this trip!

In other news, Alan did really well without Korbin today. I was very anxious and we had a talk about it before we went today, but he did just fine. He was able to play with his other friend Orian, and they made puppets with the big kid group. He was pretty proud. :) Korbin and his family will be leaving officially tomorrow. We will miss them so. Love you guys!

Top Ten Tuesday! June 28, 2011

Today should be a crazy day, as it always is on Tuesdays lol. :) I have two art classes, two art shows and work in Child Watch today. Ahhh! I hope I can spend all my extra time today outside. Cos its supposed to be 94 degrees today! Ooh baby!

Top Ten {Tuesday}

Top Ten Activities to do at Canyon Ferry Lake
(Or almost any lake or camping area lol)

#10 Fourwheeling or Dirtbiking

My dad is a member of the Billings Motorcycle Club, and he is a big dirt biker. He owns a fourwheeler, and several dirt bikes of various sizes. Including a mini 50 bike (Alan could "technically" ride it next summer!!! Not sure how I feel about this!) that is the coolest. And normally the one I choose these days.

But anyways, we all will go riding around camp and on the trails. Except for Alan. Lon participated last year though, and he is addicted to riding as well! There's something about dirt biking on trails. :) Love it!

#9 Fishing

I love to fish. I believe it is one of the most peaceful things ever. My father and I have gone fishing together since I was about five years old. I love catching fish for my family (It makes me feel empowered! Hoorah!!) and even know how to fillet a fish. Though I don't like to do it. Ick! I am still a slightly modern fisher as I enjoy fishing while listening to my Ipod or a CD. Its wonderful to have a soundtrack to your beautiful surroundings and your fishing experience. :) Its euphoric!

#8 Boating or Tubing

This kinda goes along with the fishing, only not really. Boating and tubing behind boats are more of an extreme activity. But I love it as well! I love getting in a fast speed boat and riding around, or even better, getting on a tube and riding behind the boat. So much fun! I have never tried water skiing but would love to eventually. Who knows, this year may be the year!!

#7 Hiking

I love hiking the trails around Canyon Ferry Lake as well. Me and Lon like to try to go on as many walks as possible while we camp, and we invite all the people who want to come. Hiking is one of my favorite things to do outdoors! Luckily for me, Alan and Lon like to hike as well. I just love being out in that nature, moving through the wild like an animal would. Even if some of the trails are man made lol, still is great to be out in the nature!

#6 Swimming

Swimming in the lake is a fun thing to do as well, though it gives me slight anxiety lol. I have one major phobia, and it is too silly but... I have a fear of fish touching my body. Like swimming up against my legs or past my stomach. *Shudders* Uggh I can't deal with it.

I know, I know, silly right?

But I do love to take Alan swimming. Lucky for me, Alan only likes to sit at the base of the shore, and let the waves lap up on to his belly lol. Nice and shallow lol. So yes, I like to go swimming in the lake as well. :P

#5 Building Sandcastles

You have to admit, even as adults, sandcastles are pretty fun to build and turn out pretty cool in the end. I really like to gather up all my siblings and cousins and get them to help me and Lon build a big sandcastle city. We always get so into it, and end up with the coolest ever area for action figures and Barbie dolls to play in!

You know, we should probably start taking photos of those sandcastle cities lol. We never have, for some really odd reason.

#4 Sitting by the Campfire

There's nothing better than sitting at a campfire with my whole family, almost all of the four generations of my mother's side, at the end of a hot summer day. Sometimes we roast marshmellows, other times we tell stories, sometimes we even just talk and hang out, enjoying each other's company. I love my family so much, and this is really the only time we get to see them, except for special occasions. I miss them all the time, and even though I am so grateful we get to go, I'm sad we only get to spend three days with them. :( But I still cherish every moment with them, especially the time spent at the campfire. <3

#3 Playing with the kids

To brighten the mood back up, I also cherish playing with the kids. I have my siblings and several cousins that are still young kids, and I love to play with them. I just act like a kid myself. :) Its so wonderful. I love my cousins and am so glad that Alan can play as well!

#2 Logging

Logging is a swimming game created by the Welch family (my mother's family). You find a log, preferably without spiders, and drag it in to the lake. Take it out deep and get 5-7 people to play with you (depending on how long your log is). The goal is to get all the people straddling the log without tipping anyone off. You have one person get on at a time. Once you have all your people on the log, the person at the end (usually the best logger lol) will attempt to stand on the log and jump into the water, without tipping anyone off until the end.

Best game ever!!! :D

#1 Spending time with the Welch family

Like I said in #4, I cherish every moment I spend with the Welch family, even if we are just hanging out and doing nothing. I love my family and love to spend time with them! <3

What do you like to do while out camping?????

Korbin's Last Day of Daycare

Today was a sad day for Alan and I. Alan's BFF Korbin and his family are moving to Seattle on Wednesday, and today was Korbin, Keanu and Erica's last day at daycare. :\ We threw them a potluck party and I tried to make them chili but we didn't have any meat. And the bean chili tasted nasty lol. So I brought pop. :)

Alan and I had a talk about Korbin moving this morning, and I think he understands. He tried to be really nice to him all day today (sometimes they rough house and fight like brothers) and even gave him hugs and kisses. They played cars and dinosaurs together. And they shared their snack (even though it was the same thing lol). They even played ball and tag with the big kids.

Unfortunately, Alan fell asleep in the high chair and Korbin left before he woke up. :( But I talked to Erica and maybe we will meet up just before they leave town to say goodbye for real.

I am so sad though! Alan's last really good friend moved to Arizona when Alan was nine months old and then when we found Korbin we thought they would grow up together! :( Korbin and Alan have been BFFs for half of Alan's life! I will really miss Erica, Korbin and Keanu alot. I hope they have a safe trip over to Seattle and have a wonderful life there. I know we will be doing our best to go visit them as much as we can! We love you guys so much! <3

Motivational Mondays!!

Today, here are three wonderful quotes from the brilliant Helen Keller. She overcame so much in her childhood and her life, what an amazing person. Enjoy!

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us."
Helen Keller

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."
Helen Keller

"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."
Helen Keller

Meet Me on Monday!! June 27, 2011

I'm not feeling that hot this morning. I was up all night last night with a gruesome stomach ache. :\ It finally went away at like seven, you know, an hour before I had to wake up. Blah. At least today I only have one art class and work only from 3 to 8 in daycare. I might be sleeping the rest of the time... Ha! I wish!

Here's Meet Me on Monday!

What is your favorite food?
Probably spaghetti. Ooooh I love me some spaghetti! Any pasta really, but there's something about how easy it is to make (SUPER EASY) versus how delicious it is (SUPER DELICIOUS) that makes me just want to eat it all the time. Yum!

Too bad Lon feels the EXACT opposite way about spaghetti. So we eat it like... once a month. Boo!

What color scheme is your bedroom?
We do not have a color scheme. Lon is an eccentric inventor and I'm a hippie (duh lol) so we don't believe in conforming to a specific color scheme for just about any room. In our bedroom alone, we have my purple tapestry, blue bed sheets, weird off white/tan walls, our black and white blanket, various colors in our many pictures on the wall and like three different types of wooden furniture. No scheme whatsoever. :)

Do you carry a donor card?
No I don't but I have been contemplating becoming a donor. I know a lot of loved ones and people who are in need of donors. You can never have too many. :)

In your opinion, is the glass half empty or half full?
I'm an optimist, if that's what your asking. I have never really like this question because I just think its silly. If you want to know if I'm an optimist, ask. Don't quiz me on silly things. Cos in all honesty, I've said it both ways before. Its all about context.

Vanilla or Chocolate?
Chocolate all the way! I like vanilla, but ever since Childhood I've been the one who gets Chocolate. My sister Natalie had allergies as a child to chocolate, so she always got vanilla. So I think it was a little programmed into me lol. :P But I like both vanilla and chocolate, I will just always pick chocolate over just about anything. Chocolate's the best!

Wonderful Family Sundays!!

I am super exhausted from today! We just got home for the first time since like ten this morning and I am just beat!! :) My feet are killing me and I feel like I carried twenty men, instead of just one toddler. I could very well possibly be sunburnt. And Alan? He's still running laps around me lol. Ahhhhhh, where does all that energy come from???? :D

We did have such a wonderful day today though! It was all worth it!

This is funny: I let Alan pick out his clothes again today, and in spirit of the Cars 2 movie he chose a Lightning McQueen pajama shirt and Cars swim trunks. :) We let him wear it the whole day, we are such awesome parents!

Anyways, the morning started with Alan and I waking up early to watch Cars lol. You know, we had to refresh our mind from... yesterday when we watched it. :P Then we went and got the tickets. Alan was so smart he started asking, "Cars? Cars?" when we were walking up to the theater. Little did he know we were only getting tickets and he was very unhappy about that. Wouldn't get into his car seat until I promised him that I'd take him to a park and play. Little stinker. :) I decided to take him to Rose Park, as it was the closest park I could think of.

On our way to the park however, Alan started asking to eat and I realized it was lunch time. So we stopped at home and made a few sandwiches for the park. Then we went ALL the way back out to Rose Park lol to have a picnic and play.

Alan would hardly eat anything at the park, he was too interested in playing. He thought the picnic tables were cool, but wouldn't sit still on one long enough to take a bite. So I inhaled my sandwich and we went to the playground. At the playground, Alan and I slid down the slides, swung on the swings, climbed through the playground course, and chased other kids. Three boys around Alan's age started to play tag with him, so I stood back and watched. They were so funny, the four of them! Alan even was "it" for a little bit and he loved it. He thought it was so funny that the boys kept running away from him, and forgot to tag anyone! Too silly! :)

Then it started to thunder and rain lightly, so we headed to the car. Luckily too, because on the way home it started raining real hard! Alan wasn't impressed with me and threw a little tantrum, but passed out cold on the ride home! :) He got in a good hour and a half nap before the movie.

Cars 2 was so good! I'm an old fashioned gal, so I like the first one better, but this one was still really great! I won't give too much away... They go to Japan, Italy and London for a three part race and Mater is involved in some James Bond style work. Totally cute movie. :)

This scene was cool! I like how Pixar has cars work human machines or computers! So interesting!

And how did Alan do? He just LOVED it, every second of it! We let him bring one of his cars, and he chose Mater. So he spent almost the whole movie driving Mater around everywhere, while yelling and laughing. Thank goodness its a kids movie. :) But I was so proud of my big boy for sitting through the whole movie.

Had to add another picture! So cool! Some of the cars could even shoot guns! How weird right? Lol very James Bond. :)

Then we met up with Erica, Korbin, Sarah, Haley, Anthony and Nicci at Pioneer Park for the Symphony in the Park. The Symphony in the Park is an annual event put on by The Billings Community Band and the Billings Symphony. This year was its 39th year. It is our fourth year attending, and it was great! Because of the movie, we missed the Community Band's performance but we arrived in time for the Instrument Petting Zoo. After checking it out, I decided Alan was still too young so we played at the park. Then we went back up to our blankets to listen to the Billings Symphony. Everyone else had to leave for dinner, so Alan gave Korbin goodbye kisses. :) Too cute!

The Billings Symphony was amazing! We were able to hear them play four songs and both boys loved it. They performed the Cowboys, The Sound of Music Medley, a John Phillip Sousa song that was conducted by a child, and a beautiful violin solo whose name I missed. All the songs were really good, and at one point Uncle Kalvin and Alan were conducting with their licorices! It was so cute, I snapped a ton of photos. My little hambones. :)

We also got really lucky and ended up sitting behind my friend Chelsey and her family! We went to their wedding just last week. I didn't recognize them until their son Colton walked around behind their chairs and waved at Alan. Oh it was so cool to sit near them!

Today was a great Family Sunday! What a perfect way to relax from the busy week and get a chance to be outside for a bit. I am so grateful that I am able to spend time with my loved ones. :) What a awesome day! Tune in tomorrow for Motivational and Meet Me on Monday. Love you all! Peace!

Who would've thought?????

Today was another hot one. 84 degrees almost right away when we woke up at 7:30. I had to work this morning in Child Watch and teach my Kindergarten art class plus Lon was finishing up his sixth folf basket, so Alan came with me to daycare.

The first hour Alan was the only kid in there, so he got to decide which side he wanted to play on. He changed his mind about every... ten seconds lol. But then more kids started showing up, including on of Alan's older friends he hadn't seen in a while. They ran and played ball together, and had a wonderful time. I had to leave him at daycare for my art class and he didn't even care! :) Lol art class was good. We made Summer Collages and Hand print Birds (I feel like I've already typed this before lol, maybe earlier in the week!) and my chatty girls finished their kites from last week. We will be moving this classes' art show to the Saturday after next, due to one student's absence for the holiday weekend. But we still discussed how to curate the art show and how to properly explain each picture. My Kindergartners were really into it! :) I believe their art show will be awesome!

After art, I went back down to Child Watch to work for the last hour it was open. Alan had a poopy diaper (he still will only poop in diapers... Grrrr! Thoughts?) and wouldn't let anyone else change him. So I stepped up to the plate lol, so to speak. :) But he was NOT happy about me taking his shoes off so I could change him. He freaked out and screamed, "My shoes! MY SHOES!" like someone was hurting him. Oooooh it was so embarrassing. :) I successfully changed his diaper but after putting his shorts back on, he refused to let me put on his shoes. Then he wanted them on, then didn't... So on and so forth. You all know how tantrums go lol. Well I finally scooped him up and started rocking him in our rocking chair. I was given another baby to rock and a few minutes later, I thought the baby had fallen asleep.

I asked my co-worker to check, and she told me they both were! :) I rocked them for a few more minutes, until the baby woke himself up and scared himself. He started screaming and woke up Alan, so I set him on the floor for a moment to adjust the baby. Well Alan fell BACK asleep on the floor! And he slept that way until we closed! Silly tired man!

We weren't able to meet up with my friends and their sons for the play date, as one of them had an family pet emergency. :( But it was okay, since Alan chose to take an early nap.

While Alan napped, Lon and I watched Battlefield: Los Angeles. Wow! What a good movie! It was waaaaaaaaaaay better than Skyline! I even cried a little lol!

Once Alan woke up from his nap, the both of us headed to Grandma Melanie's house. We decided to not go to Rose Park pool, because of the heat. We figured that the pool would be packed because its a Saturday and of the weather. So we hung out at their home and made our own water park instead. :)

Uncle Kalvin and his friend set up the Slip-n-Slide. Alan was too scared to try the Slip-n-Slide, which I was quite grateful for. But we also set up the sprinkler in the front yard and he just loved that! Which is surprising because he hates water running on him. He can deal with standing water, like pools and bathtubs, but hates running water, like showers and sprinklers. But not today! :) He ran through the sprinkler over and over again, squealing and laughing the whole way! He would chase after Uncle Kalvin and his friend, or go in by himself. He didn't mind the water spraying in his face. He thought it was funny.

Where did my baby go????

He's grown up so much and in two short months he will be two!! This just blows my mind and makes me a little sad actually. But I know he needs to grow. And so I'm loving every minute of it. :)

I had such a good day with my son today. I can't wait for Family Sunday tomorrow! We are going to Cars 2 at 1:55 and then we be attending the Symphony in the Park tomorrow night. What a great way to spend my summer Sundays! :) Have a great night everyone!

Five Question Friday!! June 24, 2011

Today is another hot one lol. Ugggggh! Today we probably will go run through the sprinklers at Grandma's house and then I work from 2 to 7. Not too busy of a day lol. Tomorrow we will be going on a playdate with two of Alan's friends at Sacajwea Park, and then we will be going swimming at Rose Park with Grandma, Unlce Kalvin, Erica, and Korbin. Keanu will probably also be there, but he won't be swimming lol. :) And then Sunday we plan on taking Alan to see Cars 2. The Symphony in the Park is also Sunday night, which we will be attending with my YMCA crew (Erica and kids, Sarah and kids, and Kari). Lets hope this weather stays nice and not too hot because we will be outside almost ALL weekend. Yahoo! :D

I can't wait to see this movie! They are going to Japan! Sooooo cool!

Oooooooh can't wait for this weekend! Saturday get over here!!! :P Ahhhhh, he's Five Question Friday for you now.

What is your current favorite tv show?
I don't really have a specific favorite tv show but right now I'm really into Family Guy, American Dad, and Futurama. We've been only really watching funny adult cartoons lately. With all the stress of life lately, we are only in the mood to laugh when watch tv. :)

I used to be really into Full Metal Brotherhood, but the season ended last week. I will probably still watch the reruns on YouTube for another month of two but will have to wait for the next season (Hopefully there will be!!!).

What's the worst haircut you ever got?
When I was little, I decided to cut my bangs. Only the exact moment I decided this, my bangs we clipped back into my hair by little barretts. So when I cut my hair, it fell out of the barretts and onto my forehead, creating TRIANGLE bangs. :P Oh boy.

My mom took me to my Aunt's house, who was a hairstylist, and she cut my bangs really short to make up for the triangle.

The worst part? Class pictures were that week. Gaaaah! :P

What was something that you did as a child that you thought you were so cool for doing?
Operating machinary lol. Now before you think my parents were crazy for allowing me to operate machinary, please remember that I live in Montana.

In Montana, it is commonly seen as a "coming of age" thing to learn how to drive a tractor, boat, fourwheeler, etc. when you turn about eleven or twelve. Now of course, I was always supervised (that first year before I got really good at driving lol) so its not that crazy right?

Right???? :)

Do you have any GREAT frugal family fun tips?
Go to a park!

They are free, completely! And if you go to a different one each time, you can make it into a wonderful family adventure! There are always so many parks in every town, and every park is cool!

This year, my family made a promise to ourselves and especially Alan that we would go to a different park at least three times a week! We have kept that promise so far in June, and plan to continue the rest of the season! We love parks!

Would you drive across country if you had the money to fly?
Yes we would.

As much as I love flying (and I do, I'll have to write a post someday about all my dance company trips), these days when I turn on the tv to another plane wreck somewhere I can't help but remember what a friend of mine used to tell me,

"Planes are dangerous for one reason, humans can't fly. In a car crash or fail, if you survive the intial crash, you can walk away. In a boat crash or fail, if you survive the initial crash, you can swim away to safety. But in a plane crash or fail, if you survive the initial crash, you cannot fly away. And you sure won't be walking away either."

Lol now that sounds a little wild and crazy, but I do hear some clarity in it. Even if we had the money, we would most likely drive the distance. Just because I know that we would be in control of the vehicle, and would feel more at peace with it.

Nothing against any of the commercial pilots, I just don't want to have to worry about Alan in a plane crash with us. No thanks. :) And I would stress, the WHOLE way. I'm a worry wort like that.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! I know we will! Check back tomorrow to see how our Saturday went! :D Peace!

Holy crow, its already been two months!!

I can't believe that I forgot to mention this morning that today is also our two month anniversary. But it is! The only reason I mention this even is because my wonderful husband surprised me with a homemade steak and potato dinner for us, for our two month anniversary. I knew there was a reason I married that guy lol! :P Just joking!

Wow these first two months really flew by for us, but we have been through so much in that short time. It has only made us stronger though. I feel like we are still so much in love too! Lon is always doing little sweet things for me like saving the last pop in the 12 pack, or waking up late when Alan fusses. He is such a sweet guy. I love him. :)

He is a wonderful father to Alan as well! Oh I love how much they love each other. You can just tell! I got really lucky when it came to picking the perfect dad for Alan, because no one else could ever replace Lon! They are perfect for each other!

Happy 2 month anniversary Lon! I love you so much! <3

And again, a huge thanks to the wonderful Jeff Bryson for doing such a great job on our wedding photos! :D

In other news, the weather here today was CRAZY!! All day long until I went to work, it was a warm 90 degrees. And then around five, while I was at work, it started pouring all randomly! But by the time I was off at eight, the rain had ceased and it was a nice 68 degrees out. Such odd summer weather Big Sky!!! I was grateful for the nice weather at the end of the day, it made my walk home from work really nice and peaceful. I loved it!

Toddler Talk Thursdays!! June 23, 2011

Today is a hot one. I didn't have any art classes to teach today, so we thought we could sleep in a little. NOT! We woke up pretty much when the sun did, because of one thing. THE HEAT!! Ahhhh I've been up for like three hours now and its only getting warmer outside. Why don't we have AC????? Where is the nearest swimming pool???? Is it considered offensive if we continue this somewhat nudist colony when we got out in public???? Cos its too hot for clothing! :)

I can't wait until it gets to be a hundred and ten degrees.... NOT!

It is a month away from my birthday today! I will be turning a wild 22 years old lol! :D Not really... When I go out for my birthday, I will be going out to drink only for the third time ever! I hardly did any drinking when I was 21 and I think it will be the same when I'm 22. So not really wild at all lol. But still, tune in to see more birthday posts, because I am still excited for my birthday!

Here's Toddler Talk Thursdays guys! Enjoy!

Sippy Cup Mom

This week's topic: Vacationing with a Toddler

Do you have any planned? Are you worried, excited? Do you have any tips to share?

We actually will be going on vacation for the fourth of July to Canyon Ferry Lake up between Townsend and Helena, MT. We will be driving up Saturday morning and staying until Monday night (we don't need to watch fireworks with a toddler who is scared of loud noises, plus I work Tuesday morning). We did this same camping trip last year, when Alan was 10 months old. Only we went up Friday and stayed til Tuesday. In a tent, IN the Montana heat lol. And we survived! :D

So am I worried? Nah, I'm so excited about this trip that I've caught myself daydreaming about it when the day gets slow and monotonous. I can't wait to be off of work for three days! I'm glad to only be responsible for one toddler, not ten like I am at work. Chasing Alan around the beach sounds absolutely  w o n d e r f u l  to me right now. :)

My tips? Keep your toddler hydrated, fed, napped and busy.

Even though you are on your vacation, you should still try to keep your child napping and eating regularly. Sometimes when on vacation, parents forget to keep their child "running" so to speak, and that's why children will crash and burn and throw a tantrum. Alan will have his cup with him everywhere (with water in it of course) and we will rest often and have lots of snacks. As of right now, Alan chooses not to take a nap and instead goes to bed early, so we will continue with that during vacation as well.

Another tip? Remember sunscreen! We will be lathering Alan up every three to four hours while we are camping at the lake, and will take him in the shade for a break every hour or so. Sunburns are no fun, especially during vacation!

My last tip? Enjoy the vacation yourself! I've seen a lot of parents so concerned about their children's enjoyment that they themselves don't enjoy their trip. Then they are extremely grumpy by the third day. Don't be that parent!! I will not stress about Alan having fun, HE'S A BOY AND HE'LL BE OUTSIDE, he'll make his own fun. :)

Idea for next week's topic: How do you keep your toddler cool in the hot summer heat?

Have a great day guys! Peace! :D

The Joys of Teaching, and other thoughts...

Today at my art class, one of my little girls brought me flowers that she and her father had picked together from their garden for me. :) This is seriously the sweetest thing! The flowers are so pretty and they smell delicious! I will keep them in my kitchen window until they start to wilt and then I will hang them upside down like I do with most of my flowers (the other I press in books). But this made me smile and completely brightened my day! This is why I teach! I love and care and think about each and every one of my students, and its nice to be reminded that they love me just as much. Simple gifts from the heart are such a blessing that I will never take for granted. Thank you again sweetheart! :)

I forgot to mention this the other day, but Alan used sidewalk chalk for the first time! We bought some Crayola Giant Chalk from Walmart and Alan responded really well to it! I was a little anxious about him not liking the chalk dust that would cling to his hands, clothes, etc. But he didn't mind the dust at all and loved using it! We think it helped that they were shaped like big crayons. He still thought it was the coolest thing that he could make pictures appear on the sidewalk.

This is the chalk we used. Awesome! :D

Nothing other than the flowers really happened today, so I don't have a lot else to post about. Not to mention I worked another 8 1/2 hour shift today and I'm beat! Sorry! Tune in tomorrow morning for Toddler Talk Thursdays though! Good night!

Top Ten Tuesday!! June 21, 2011

Today is a crazy day for me, I'm surprised I even get a chance to get on here. With my art classes and Child Watch combined, I work from 10 to 8 with an hour break. Ahhhhhhhhh! :) No outside time today for me, unless I convince everyone to go outside at daycare. Which I might... :P

Here's Top Ten Tuesday! Enjoy!

Top Ten {Tuesday}

My Top Ten Favorite Bloggers!!

Before I start this list, I want everyone to know that I read like 100+ blogs a day lol. So if you made it to this list, at all, your pretty special in my book. :D But this are my favorite bloggers, who I probably check their blogs at least once a day. Some of them I acutually know, and some are just blogging friends. But they all are wonderful ladies with amazing stories to share! Check them out! :D

#10 Jodie@ Its All Good in Mommyhood

I love this gal. She makes me laugh almost all the time! :D She is a bit older than me and has three more kids than I do, so I like to go to her blog for advice sometimes. Or for just a good belly laugh.

#9 Leslie@ The Campos Family

I know Leslie, she is one of my WTE sisters. I love her family and her boys very much, and am so excited that she is expecting a girl this time! I love to read her blog to catch up on their daily life, as we don't always talk as much as I'd like to. But nonetheless, I love her and her family.

#8 Holly Ann@ Twins Plus One: Three Times the Fun

I think that Miss Holly Ann is very, very, VERY brave lol. I thought just watching my son with a friend of his was hard, I could never imagine tackling three at once (Well, maybe just not now lol. Who knows when I'm older?). I love her craziness though and am always checking up on her kids' shinanigans.

#7 Jana@ The Meanest Mom on the Block

The Meanest Mom

I have to argue with Jana a little on her title, I do not think she is the Meanest Mom on the Block, but perhaps the funniest? I tune into her blog on a daily basis to get my laughs. Her children and husband are crazy! How she makes it through each day baffles me. :P Well only kinda lol...

#6 Mrs. Brogdon@ Our Growing Family

I just love this family! They have three wild boys all under three, and they are some of the cutest little blonde boys you have seen! I love to tune into their crazy stories almost everyday. I love the current post they have about their little monkey boy. Too cute! Check it out!

#5 Tales of a Young Mama

I love this mama! I find her very interesting because she is obsessed with Sweden, and I am obsessed with Denmark and Germany myself. :) She is also one of the closer blogging mamas I know. I would love to someday meet this mama, that is if she doesn't move to Sweden first! Her son Jasper is too adorable and I love his long hair! We are actually styling Alan's long hairdo after his.

#4 Mama M@ My Little Life

Seriously, Mama M is my hero! Five kids and one wild husband, she is a superhero. In ten years, I hope to be as well off as she is now! She can really make you laugh too, her kids say the funniest things! I check Mama M's page like three times a day lol, always checking to see what her children are up to. I love this woman so much! <3 You could say I'm a little obsessed.

#3 Kristine@ Team Ewan

remembering ewan button

I feel so much for Kristine. She has gone through so much in only a year, and she has become so strong. I started following her blog the day after her son's passing and have fallen in love with this woman. She is expecting again and moving to Florida, so I check on her page probably twice a day. She is another hero of mine as well. To have gone through so much with her son, I just couldn't imagine. I wish her and her husband nothing but the best! She deserves it!

#2 Neyesha@ Mason's Journery: Our Boy with a Special Heart

Neyesha is also a CHD mama. Her heart baby Mason was also born in September, just in 2010 instead of 2009. She also has an older boy, Carter. Between a two year old and a heart baby, Neyesha never gets a break. This mama is such a strong mama as well, I always feel so humbled by her. :) I check her blog everytime I am on mine these days. You could say I'm a little obsessed with her family, but I love them so.

#1 Jill@ The Real Life of a Red Head

The Real Life of a Redhead

Aww Jill. My first and favorite blogger. <3 What can I say about her???? She is a wonderful mom to her kids and has been through so much with her youngest, Joshua. Unfortunately, Joshua passed away on my husband's birthday, the day after I started following her blog. He was a CHD baby as well. :( Thankfully, Jill and her family are much stronger people now. And she is expecting again! :D I wish her and her family nothing but love and happiness. They deserve it!

Motivational Mondays!!

I am linking up with Jen and Motivational Mondays this week! I will be sharing another excert from the Dhammapadda titled Thousands. These mantras are aimed at making a distinction between quantity and quality in life. Enjoy!

Better than a thousand sayings composed of meaningless statements is a single meaningful statement on hearing which one becomes calm. Better than a thousand verses composed of meaningless lines is a single line of verse on hearing which one becomes calm. Better than one who recites a hundred verses of meaningless lines is one verse on hearing which one becomes calm.

Though one defeats a million men in battle, one who overcomes the self alone is in fact the highest victor. For one who is self-controlled and always disciplined in action, victory of someone like this cannot be made into defeat, even by a god, an angel, or a devil.

Even if someone performs ritual sacrifices a thousand times every for a hundred years, if he honors a self-cultivated individual for even a moment, that honor is better than what is sacrificed in a hundred years. Even if one tends a ceremonial fire in the forest for a hundred years, if one honors a self-cultivated individual for even a moment, that honor is better than the sacrifice of a hundred years.

Whatever may be sacrificed or offered up for a year in this world in order to gain merit, all of that is less than a fourth as good as paying respect to upright people. For those who are always courteous and respectful of elders, four things increase: life, beauty, happiness and strength.

It is better to live one day ethically and reflectively than to live a hundred years immoral and unrestrained. It is better to live one day wisely and reflectively than to live a hundred years in ignorance and indulgance. It is better to live one day making strenous effort than to live a hundred years lazily and listlessly.

It is better to live one day seeing transitoriness than to live a hundred years not seeing transitoriness. It is better to live one day seeing the deathless state than to live a hundred years not seeing the deathless state. It is better to live one day seeing the ultimate truth than to live a hundred years not seeing the ultimate truth.

Meet Me on Monday!! June 20, 2011

First I want to say have a wonderful trip to Java @Never Growing Old, who hosts this blog hop! I hope you have a great time in Mexico!! :D

I also wanted to wish Miss Sophie a happy first birthday today!! :D Saturday was her birthday party, but today she is officially one! I will have to get Alan to stop calling her "Baby Sophie" now (he's been calling her that since she was born lol)! Happy first birthday beautiful girl! We love you so much!

Today will be a good day. I have one of my Kindergarten art classes this morning and then I work in Child Watch from 3 to 8. If the weather stays nice (it looks like it could rain) then we will be playing outside again all day! Yes!! :D I love these summer days!

Here's Meet Me on Monday!!

What feature of the opposite sex do you notice first?
Their eyes or their smile. For Lon, it was actually his hair lol, but that was only because he was wearing sunglasses and he had GORGEOUS blonde locks back then. *Swoons* Ooooooh he was so handsome then!!!

Do you talk to yourself?
Oh my word, DO I talk to myself!!! I talk to myself like all the time lol, pretty much whenever I don't have someone to talk to. :P But in my defense, I think at least everyone talks to themselves at certain times. And I think it developed from being a SAHM Alan's first year of life. I did A TON of talking to myself him then! Lmao!

What is your current relationship status?
I am married yo! :D Lon and I had our wedding April 23. Wow, it will be two months on Thursday! That's wild!

Do you have a garden?
I don't. Not anymore. :( But I am patiently waiting until we buy our first home, hopefully February 2012, when I can start my own garden. I would love to have a vegetable and herbal garden in my backyard, as well as a flower garden in my front yard. I love plants and gardening is such a peaceful thing!

What is your favorite licorice flavor?
Ewwwwww I really don't like licorice! Any type! I can sometimes deal with red licorice, but I don't even understand why black licorice was ever made! Ick! Lol I can't think of what the taste reminds me of, but its just horrible! Yuck!

A Day at Great Grandpa's Ranch

Today instead of going to a park like we planned, we went out to Great Grandpa Andersen's ranch. His ranch is about a two hour drive from Billings, out by Forsyth. We went out there with Grandpa Steve, Aunt Ariel, Uncle Tyler and Uncle Chase. Great Grandpa Floyd and Great Grandma Joyce were out there camping in their motorhome.

Alan fell asleep on the ride out there so when we first arrived at the ranch, Great Grandma Joyce offered to watch him so that Lon and I could sneak out on a walk. We walked out into the foothills and surprisingly, got lost. :P Lon swears he knew where we were but after about an hour of walking around in the hills, we were found by Grandpa Steve in his truck. Then Steve took us to go see Turtle Hill.

Turtle Hill is this cool rock structure on top of a hill that looks like a turtle peeking its head out of its shell. It was the coolest looking thing ever, there were even indents for eyes! We climbed to the top of it and the set up a gun shooting range across the field. Uncle Chase and Uncle Tyler practiced shooting handguns and rifles. And Lon even shot a gun for the first time ever! He really liked it actually... Dad???? Take us hunting! :P

Once we got back to camp, Alan was awake sitting with Great Grandma Joyce by the fire. We decided to take him with us agate hunting. He wasn't too into looking for rocks but I found two agates and a couple awesome dark purple stones! Lon found a couple agates as well and Uncle Tyler found Alan a cool "dalmation" rock. He loved it, but tried to eat it. :) Then Lon, Aunt Ariel and I took Alan to go look at the cows and Great Grandpa Floyd's big green tractor. Alan even got to sit in it with Aunt Ariel! He felt like a total farmer lol.

We spent the rest of our time outside by the fire, talking with Great Grandma and Grandpa. They hail from Utah and have only seen Alan a handful of times, so they were all about their Great Grandson this trip. And Alan loved all the attention. :) He wouldn't give Great Grandpa Floyd a high five though, for some silly reason. But he gave Great Grandma Joyce a bunch of hugs and kisses.

For dinner, we drove to Forsyth for burgers and shakes. Alan had to have his own milkshake and he wouldn't take it in his sippy cup. He HAD to have it like everyone else, from the straw. What a big boy he's grown into! :D On my way home, I even was able to have a nice conversation with my brother about his first Father's Day (his son turns one on the first). What a great way to end my day!

I think we all had a great time outdoors today! I hope Lon, Steve and Floyd all had a wonderful Father's Day with us today. Happy Father's Day to everyone!!

Happy Father's Day!!

Lon just woke up to a big breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast and watermelon from me. Alan spent the night at Grandma's last night so we could enjoy our wedding date, and once he gets dropped off here, we are gonna get going. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the oil changed in the car, so we will not be going to Red Lodge for hiking. :( But I still have grand plans.

We will be going to either Riverfront Park or Phipp's Park or maybe even the Yellowstone River for a picnic lunch and a little hike with Alan. Then we will be going to Grandma and Grandpa's house for a barbecue dinner. Grandpa won't be home from camping until around then and we want to spend time with him as well. :) Sounds like a good day!

To my father:

You have always been there for me, since day one. You taught me how to ride a bike, tie my shoes, ride a dirtbike and four wheeler, drive a boat and play football. I know everyone says that Natalie is the daddy's girl, but I think I am as well. :) I have very fond memories of us camping, hiking, laughing, and loving together. And I hope to recreate some of those with Alan. He is also very lucky to have such a wonderful dad, but I know that Lon sometimes will model himself off of stories I have told him about you. See? Even Lon looks up to you and loves you. You must be one great dad. :) I love you to the moon and back dad. Thank you for everything you have ever done for me, or given me. I love you. :)

I wish all the fathers out there a Happy Father's Day. Please remember today dads, that the greatest gift a father could recieve today is his own children's love. When I asked Lon what he wanted today, he said, "Good food, and Alan to be by my side all day" Lol I knew I picked a winner! :D Happy Father's Day everyone!

A beautiful ending to a busy day...

I felt like a chicken with my head cut off all day today, but I enjoyed the majority of it. I started the morning with one of my Kindergarten art class. We made Father's Day cards and Kites. This Kindergarten class is an all girl class, were as my Monday Kindergarten class has one boy and two girls. So the girls got a little chatty about their beloved dad's so I decided to start writing down what they were saying. I heard adorably funny things like, "My dad is the best ever. My mom is also the best too though." and "I like when dad makes me eggs and lets me use chopsticks." or even "He taught me how to ride my bike and now we ride bikes everywhere!"

Then Alan, Lon and I went to our second cousin Sophie's first birthday party at Pioneer Park. They were having a barbecue, and while we waited for burgers Alan and I enjoyed strawberries and cantelope. Yum! Alan was really shy and wouldn't go wish Sophie a happy birthday, even though we had been practicing saying it all morning lol. :) But he went over and said hello to Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Kimmel. Then we went for a little walk. On the walk, Lon saw two old friends. It was nice for them to see Alan all big, it had been a while since they had both seen him. We went back to the party and had lunch. After lunch, Lon and I left Alan with Grandma Melanie and Aunt April so we could both go to work. I did another YMCA Tumble party and Lon went to work on his folf baskets.

According to Aunt April, Alan warmed up a little more when Grandma Melanie showed up and he played ball with Aunt April and Sophie. Then they had cake and otter pops. Alan had both lol, at the same time! :D My mom said he would eat a bite of the cake and then sip the otter pop or bite off a chunk. Lmao! What a little silly boy! Towards the end of the party, Great Grandpa Kimmel took Alan and Aunt April on walk to see the creek. Alan really enjoyed looking over the bridge at the creek, and he ran across the bridge a few times with Aunt April. :) Alan wore himself out so much at the party, he fell asleep on the ride back to Grandma's house! Sweet little boy!

Once Lon and I were off work, we visited Alan at Grandma's before we went to get ready for my friend Chelsey's wedding. I missed him all day and so did Lon (even though we were only away for a couple hours) and it was wonderful to see him before we went on our date! We all played ball outside for a few minutes and then we went to get fancy. :D I wore a Natalie's bridesmaid's dress (it matched their color!) and Lon wore his nice tux. We looked quite dashing together, I will really try to get a picture on here, because we looked hawt!

Unfortunately, by the time we had gotten to the venue (it was way out there!) the wedding had finished and the reception was just beginning. We still showed up in time to congratulate the bride and groom, which gave me the chance to introduce Lon to Chelsey and her new husband Dan. Chelsey looked just gorgeous, her dress was sooooooo elegant and beautiful. And Dan looked handsome in his tux. I think Lon and Dan will have alot in common, especially since both their boys are the same age. Chelsey and Dan have an adorable 21 month old boy named Colton, who also looked dashing in his little ring bearer tux. :) Watching him only made me miss Alan though lol.

We were able to let loose and have a little fun with some of my old dance friends and their husbands. Its so funny how many of my former dance classmates now have kids the exact same age as Alan, and how they are all getting married now. How life changes. :) The dinner was a delicious pulled pork sandwich, with potato salad, baked beans, fruit and veggies. Delicious! I didn't think I was as hungry as I was, but I ate all of my plate and some of Lon's lol. Maybe it was the alcohol. :) After dinner, we started the wedding activities. We heard all the toasts (only the Maid of Honor's made me cry lol, her dad made me laugh) and then laughed at the bouquet and garter tossing. We were no longer single people! Whoo! Then we watched the couple's first dance, which little Colton joined in. So cute. The Father and Daughter dance made me cry again lol (OVER EMOTIONAL) and the Mother and Son dance was sweet.

We got lucky picking our table because the cake ceremony and toasts were front and center for us! :) The had a beautifully decorated cake with lilies and purple ribbon, cute rose frosted cupcakes, and a groom's Hunting cake. We each had a cupcake and they were very good! We also enjoyed all the fun things they had. They had bubbles, which we blew all over everywhere lol. Why are bubbles so cool???? :D And they also had a professional photographer photo booth, with awesome props to play with! I took a picture with Lon and one more by myself lol, because I was having too much fun. I'm such a dork when I drink. :P I will do my best to get one of those on here as well, because they were soooooooooooooo cool!

Lon wouldn't dance with me and we were starting to miss Alan, so we wished the couple well and headed home. I do have to say that I had a wonderful time on my wedding date with my husband! It was my first date with him as hubby and wife, and our first date in over nine months! I enjoyed the whole day a lot but the ending of it was especially wonderful for us! Congratulations to you Chelsey, Dan and Colton! We love you!

Alan's Accident and Alan's Day Out

Before I tell you the story of Alan's Day Out, I must tell you about Alan's accident he had Wednesday night. The three of us were outside on our front porch, playing in the cooling evening air. I was sitting next to Alan on the steps and Lon was on the porch. Alan was practicing walking up steps by himself (I was still supervising him) and holding onto the railing. He was on the second step when his foot slipped and his fell towards the step. I yelled and reached for him, but didn't catch him before he made contact with the steps. :( These porch steps are quite decieving too, they are carpeted cement so they look softer than they actually are. He smacked his lip and cheek real hard on the steps. :(

We took him upstairs, and he was bleeding from his lip. I started freaking out (there's something about having my own child bleeding that makes me sick to my stomach) and had to remind myself that he will be okay, even if he bleeds a little. We cleaned the wound and stopped the bleeding. We also put ice on it to help with any swelling. Then we snuggled with him in our bed til he calmed down and fell asleep.

The next morning you could really see the damage. :( Alan's left cheek is slightly swollen and bruised and his corner of his lip is all puffy and scabbed. :( We've been giving him Tylenol and putting ice packs on it throughout yesterday, and I feel like that's all I can do for him. Lon keeps remniding me that he is a boy, and boys get hurt, and it wasn't my fault. But I feel sooooooo bad! :(

Anyways, while I was at work yesterday, my mom took Alan and my siblings to have some fun. Grandpa Kevin and Uncle Kalvin are leaving to go camping today, so Uncle Kalvin wanted to spend some quality time with his nephew. :) So they took him swimming at the Billings Gymnastics School (a pool at a gymnastics school??? What?).

I'll admit now, I was a little anxious (after what happened the night before) and quite jealous that they were doing this without me. Along with Alan, Grandma had to watch Kalvin and his friend, April and her friend, and Natalie and their neighbor Seth. I was worried that she would have too much on her hands, but they did just fine. I'm just a worry wort lol. :P

Alan wasn't all that into to the pool, he would only sit on the steps with Grandma and put his legs in. He played with Uncle Kalvin and Aunt April and with the pool toys though. Grandma said he had a good time. After the pool, they went to Softies for ice cream and Alan had a vanilla kiddie cone! Big boy! :D The funny thing is, he fell asleep while eating it! Everyone was in the van, eating their cones and Aunt April started laughing because Alan was asleep with the cone still in his little hand, dripping all over everything. :P

He took a nice nap at Grandma's house and then had dinner with them over there. Lon and I picked him up after I got off of work at eight. His face had improved much by then. The swelling is down and his lip looks a lot better. I am so glad that his accident Wednesday night did not ruin his fun with Grandma yesterday! :)

Five Question Friday!! June 17, 2011

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo endlessly grateful that its almost the weekend. I am so beat from this week, and we have quite the eventful weekend planned.

Saturday is Alan's second cousin Sophie's first birthday party and my friend Chelsey's wedding, which Lon and I will be attending toddler-free!! Thanks to Grandma Melanie! Then Sunday is of course Father's Day. :) Alan and I will be treating Lon to a nice hike in Red Lodge. Alan also made Lon a wonderful card. I hope everyone else has a grand weekend as well!

And now onto Five Question Friday!

What is your favorite summer time activity?
Swimming! Alan went swimming without me yesterday (Grandma Melanie and my siblings took him while I was at work) and I was sooo jealous! Lol my favorite thing to do during a hot summer day is just jump in the pool and float. Or logging is fun as well.

This is a photo of my favorite place to swim and go logging! Canyon Ferry Lake! Our fourth of July destination! Whoo! :D

Oh wait, you lovely bloggers don't know what logging is lol! Logging is a swim activity created by the Welch family (my mother's side). You find a nice long log, preferably without spiders lol. Then you haul it to the lake, and push it out. Once out deep in the water, you and up to four other people take turns pulling yourself onto the log and straddling it. The trick is to get everyone on the log and then have one of the end people stand up, still with everyone on, and dive or jump into the water. Its a wild sort of redneck game we like to play. :P

Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever's on sale?
I buy whatever is on sale. I am a cheapo lol. :P

What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer?
I like to barbecue actually. Now I'm no cook like my father, he knows how to make his meat taste delicious! But I can cook a burger and not burn it lol. I love to make burgers and hot dogs, salads, veggies, fruit and chips for my summer dinners. :) It makes for a pretty easy dinner and its delicious!

Do you have any talents?
I have a few lol.

I am an artist, I mostly do 2D oil paintings and pencil drawings but I have been known to do a 3D sculpture every once and a while.

I also am a dancer. I have been dancing since I was five years old, I had 12 years of dance schooling, taught dance for a year and a half, and can do many different styles of dance.

If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why?
Just about any foreign language. I would love to be bilingual or fluent in several languages, but I just don't have the time to learn a new language. It would be the coolest to learn how to speak Danish, German, French, Italian, Japanese and Chinese.

Toddler Talk Thursday!! June 16, 2011

Hey, hey, whaddaya say? What we gonna learn today?????

Sorry lol, I'm watching Sid the Science Kid with Alan right now while we have breakfast. :P This is his fourth favorite show, just behind Seasame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba and Dinosaur Train. I think its so great that toddler's shows these days are teaching them more advanced things like hypothesis and experiments. Alan kept saying "Perimint" all last week, and this morning I realized that he was trying to say experiment! Wow that's a five dollar word for a toddler to be saying! And we owe it all to Sid the Science Kid. :)

Here's this week's Toddler Talk Thursdays! Hope you enjoy it!

Sippy Cup Mom

This week's Topic:
How do you keep your toddler busy during the summer?

Alan is a crazy active toddler. He has so much energy we have to wrestle with him at night sometimes just so we can wear him out enough to want to go to bed, and then we normally end up wearing ourselves out instead. :) So we have a lot of things that we do to keep him busy, and it gets easier in the summer with the nice weather.

In the summer, we spend a lot of time outside. There will be days were the only time we are inside is when we use the bathroom or go to bed. :) Some things that Alan likes to do outside are: playing catch, kicking the ball, sliding down a slide, playing follow the leader, swinging in a swing, running, playing hide and seek, riding his tricycle, playing in the mud, doing a scavenger hunt, running through the sprinklers, playing duck duck goose, riding his tractor scooter, swimming in the pool, playing in the dirt, jumping, playing with his cars, exploring the outdoors and playing tag.

This is the Big Sky however, and sometimes (even in the summer) the weather is poopy. Thanks to the winter season though, we have a lot of indoor activities that Alan also will participate in. Some things that Alan likes to do inside are: playing cars, coloring and drawing, running around the house, playing duck duck goose, dancing, reading stories, playing hide and seek, swimming at the Y pool, painting a picture, playing follow the leader, singing songs, wrestling, and playing house.

As you can see, we have many more outdoor activities than indoor. But hey, we're hippies. :P

Idea for next week's topic:
How do you teach music to your toddler?

Top Ten Tuesday!! June 14, 2011

I hope today is another warm day like yesterday, because we will be spending ALL the time we can outside. I have two art classes today and I work in the daycare from 2 to 8, but the rest of our day will be spent outside in the sun!

I also hit 3000 page views yesterday! I have been averaging around 100 views a day, how awesome! Thank you to all my readers and followers. I appreciate it endlessly! I love you all!!!

Here's my Top Ten Tuesday- can you tell what my mind is on??? :)

Top Ten {Tuesday}

Top Ten Dream Vacation Spots (that we will one day visit!)

#10 Utah
Lon is originally from Utah, and the majority of his family lives there. They have all come up to see Alan several times since he was born, but we would love to go down there to visit them one of these summers. And we'd take Alan to Lagoon!

#9 Las Vegas

This August, there is a WTE September '09 babies second birthday get together in Las Vegas, and we would just LOVE to go! I have been to Las Vegas twice before as well, and I just love the city so much! Alan would have a lot of fun in Vegas with me, I know all the cool family-friendly places. :)

#8 Seattle
At the end of this month, Alan's BFF Korbin and his family are moving to Seattle. We will miss them all like none other, but the one good thing is we now have an excuse to go to Seattle! We hope sometime next summer or the one after that we will be able to make a trip to visit them.

#7 Denver

I have family in Colorado, in the Air Force specifically. The last time I saw them was two summers before I had Alan, for the fourth of July. I love my cousins so very much and would love to go down and visit them. Plus, I have been to Denver before and love the city very much. We would also have tons to do there!

#6 Alaska
I also have family in Alaska, my uncle the oil rigger and my aunt the veteranarian. And my cousin David and his little boy, who's a month younger than Alan. My aunt and uncle have three wonderful boys as well, the youngest only a year or two older than Alan. My grandma and a couple other family members make yearly trips to visit them, and I envy them everytime I look at their pictures. I would love to take my boys to Alaska, to see the wild and play with other boys lol. It would be magical.

#5 Bonnaroo

This is a festival that I have wanted longed to go to since I was in high school. This festival has some of the most versitile, best bands ever and has a great hippie enviroment. I would love for Alan to go with us, but for us to do that we will have to wait until he is 5 or older. But I would love for my son and husband to see the wonderful celebration of beauty that is Bonnaroo. :)

#4 Mall of America
I went to the Mall of America on a road trip for my nineteenth birthday, just a month before I met Lon. And the Mall of America is the coolest mall ever! We would want to wait until Alan was like 3 or 4, but then it would be an awesome place for him to check out! Alan would love to play in the Lego World, go to the Nickelodeon Theme Park, check out the aquairium, and eat lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. Not to mention all the cool shops there! We would be able to make a whole trip out of it lol!

#3 DisneyWorld

Disney is one of my favorite children's companies and DisneyWorld is my perfect idea of the greatest children's theme park. I went there for dance when I was fourteen, and I have daydreamed of going back since! There is something there for everyone, no matter how old you are! I cannot wait until Alan is like six or seven, we will all go on vacation to DisneyWorld! I think I might be more excited about it than Alan is. :P

#2 Denmark
Andersen is a Danish name lol. Alan is half Danish, Lon's half. :) I think that when Alan is 12+ years old, it would be interesting if we took a trip to Denmark to learn about our heritage.

I'll be honest with you, I know almost nothing about Denmark, except that they were vikings lol. So I would be so interested in learning about the traditions and heritages as well!

#1 Germany

On the other hand lol, Kimmel is a German name. Alan is also half German, my half. For the same reason as #2 was, I think going to Germany for vacation would also be cool. But I actually know a lot about Germany lol, as I am German.

Meet me on Monday!! June 13, 2011

I hope everyone has a great day today! I have one of my Kindergarten art classes this morning and then I work at the daycare from 3 to 8 tonight. Nothing too exciting, but its a nice day out again so hopefully we can go outside in our free time!

For now, here's Meet me on Monday!!

What is your favorite yogurt flavor?
Like regular yogurt or frozen yogurt? Cos both of them are pretty plain lol. :)

For regular yogurt, I like just about any yogurt with fruit chunks in it, but strawberry yogurt is my favorite. I'm not really into the whole flavoured yogurt thing, I like my yogurt vanilla with fruit chunks in it lol.

For frozen yogurt, I like chocolate frozen yogurt. I know lol, pretty lame!!

Ankle or knee socks? and on the same theme, white socks or coloured??
No socks if I can! I prefer to be barefoot all the time!

But if I have to wear socks, its whatever I can find to wear lol. I'll wear long and ankle socks, but only knee socks if I can find them. I only of have two pairs of knee socks but I love them!

If they're my husband's, then they're definitely white, sometimes with the knee and toe coloring but nothing too exciting. If they're mine, then 30% of them are white socks and the other 70% of them are colored or decorated. I don't like plain things, so even my socks are normally some wild neon color or print (I even have a pair of Fraggle Rock socks!) unless I'm at work lol.

How is the weather right now?
Well I'm about to walk to work right now, and its a beautiful sunny day, possibly 75 degrees outside. Yes!

Are you a fast typer?
I used to be lol. In highschool I was the fastest typer in my graduating class, also known as the world's biggest nerd. :P But now, I'm just a decently fast typer. I think my biggest problem now with keeping up the speed is my OCD that makes me delete a whole word before I can retype it correctly. Its obnoxious lol!

Red or White Wine?
Wanna know something totally crazy? I have never really tasted red OR white wine lol, so I don't have a preference. I'm not a wine or chardonay drinker and have never been put in the situation... Oh wait, I tried boxed wine once. Ick, remember now! It was red wine and it was sick! But that's hopefully only because its boxed wine lol.

Love this summer weather!

It was a beautiful, partially sunny partially rainy, 87 degree Sunday! We had a great day together, the three of us. We woke up nice and early, then snuggled and watched Seasame Street before getting dressed for the day. Then we played cars and watched Cars twice while Lon made breakfast for us.

After breakfast, we went for a walk around the neighborhood. Alan ran almost the whole way, laughing and yelling and chasing anything moving lol. We had a great time. :) We even walked through the Moss Mansion gardens on the way home.

Later we picked up Aunt April and Uncle Kalvin to go have a picnic and hiking and climbing on the Rims. It was raining lightly when we got up to Swords Park but most of that went away by the time we found our picnic spot. We sat down close to the edge (but not too close) and had PB and J sandwiches with carrots and apple slices. Alan chowed down on his sandwich and some apples but wouldn't eat any carrots. Hmmm, I can only ever seem to get him to eat carrots when they're hidden in other food... Not sure what that's about.

Billings has their airport right off the rims, and so one of Lon and I's favorite things to do in the summer is go to the rims and have airplanes fly over your head as they land at the airport. This is the coolest and most exilerating thing ever, we love to do it! A few planes flew over us while we picnicked and each time one did, Alan would stop eating and point at the plane, saying "Wooooooooooooooooow!" the whole time.

After our picnic, Lon and the kids went cliff climbing while Alan and I watched. Then we went on a few trails on the rims. I convinced the kids to do a scavenger hunt with me and we found everything from a cactus to a beetle to a bird's feather. Kalvin was very proud of himself when he found the cactus for us. :) We did some more cliff climbing and then we started heading back to the car.

We dropped of Aunt April and Uncle Kalvin, and went home to take a nap. The three of us passed out in our bed, watching Finding Nemo. It was a nice afternoon nap. :)

Grandma and Grandpa were having a barbeque again and once we woke up, we went over there. Lon had to do some work on his folf baskets, so he went to his parent's to work on them. Aunt April, Alan and I played outside while we waited for the burgers and hot dogs to cook. Alan swang on the swing, slid down the slide over and over again lol, rode on his tractor scooter, played ball, ran up and down the block, and drove his toy dirt bike in the mud. I had a great time playing with him and April, and just watching him play and be a kid. He got horribley muddy but I didn't care. He had a blast.

For dinner we had burgers, bratwurst or hot dogs with noodle salad, chips, pickles, and fruit. Alan went up in his highchair three times for dinner lol, and he chowed all three times! Boy did he work up an appetite today! In between each dinner meal, he played outside with me, Aunt April, Uncle Kalvin, Aunt Natalie and their neighbor Seth. Then it started to get cool outside so we went home.

Before bed, Alan and I made Lon his Father's Day card while Lon was showering. It is the coolest! Its orange and red with marker all over it (Alan's amazing drawing skills) and puff  balls and confetti glued all over it too! We hope Lon will like it! :)

More random ramblings...

I didn't post a third post yesterday like I planned but that's because we went over to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner. However, I still wanted to get in a post about Aunt April and more about Rosalie. But bear with me lol, this will be a random post lol. :D

Aunt April and the girls of Diversity Dance did a beautiful job Thursday night at the Alberta Bair. Aunt April did eleven dances total, and I was able to see ten of them (I only missed the opening number because I chose to walk from work to the theatre). She did a lyrical dance, a tribal dance with the younger company, a hip hop dance, a cool ballet dance to "Funhouse", a punk rock themed tap dance, a dance involving mad scientists and robots, a cool karate influenced jazz piece and the finale. I also really enjoyed the ballet to that Ratatouille song and the umbrella dance that was a statement about children being more free than adults. Plus, I just loved Leah's senior choreography and her solo. Her solo was just gorgeous and it made me cry. And her senior choreography was a beautiful celebration of herself as a dancer. I loved it so much. :) It was wonderful to see the directors Lisa and Amantha afterwards, along with all my former classmates and students. I loved catching up with everyone, they're all growing up! It kinda breaks my heart and makes me smile, all at the same time. :)

Yesterday was Rosalie's fourth birthday. For her birthday, we donated to the March of Dimes. We are struggling financely right now but we made an effort to still donate in her name.

Then at noon, we took four pink balloons with pink ribbons to Riverfront Park at released them into the sky for her. It was sunny and I smiled and cried, so thankfully I am not able to post the photos we took on here lol. I remember it as such a wonderful and beautiful moment, but the pictures just show me looking all haggard and weeping lol. :P I prefer to remember it the way I do, without the pictures. They are just for her scrapbook and nothing else.

Today I did a birthday at the YMCA for a little three year old boy. We had a great time! The party was Thomas the Train themed and everyone had such a wonderful time! The kids just LOVED the zip line too!

Then once I got home and Alan had woken up from his nap, we went to go check the progress on Lon's folf baskets and the folf course. Alan really enjoyed running through the field with me, and Lon was proud to show us all of his hard work. :)

For dinner, we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house again. We had corndogs and french fries, and we ate outside in the front yard. Then Uncle Kalvin, Aunt April and Alan ran around the front yard, screaming and playing like wild children. It was really nice and reaxing to just sit and watch kids playing, in the setting sun and the slowly cooling air.

When we got home, we bathed Alan and let him play in the tub for forty-five minutes or so. He is a little fish! We might go swimming tomorrow at the YMCA because he loves the water! :) And to close up the night, we all snuggled in our bed and watched Wall.E before putting a sleeping Alan to bed. What a great day!

Five Question Friday!! June 10, 2011

April's dance recital last night was just breathtaking. She and all of the other girls danced so beautifully! I was amazed at how much my former students have grown since I had last seen them. Those cute, silly 8 and 9 year old girls are now in high school and are beautiful young women. :) I saw one of my girls dance her solo and it brought me to tears. They are almost adults now. Where did the time go?

This also made me realize how fast my own baby sister was growing. Already 12 years old, and in a dance company, going to Las Vegas for Nationals this summer, dancing in a way that would make Mia Michaels faint, and cleaning up after her dance sisters. Wow. :)

Today feels kinda like a 3 post day to me lol. Already posted earlier this morning for Rosalie's birthday, and after I wanna write a more in depth post about Aunt April's recital. So stay tuned for another post later today! Have a great Friday and an awesome weekend!

Here's Five Question Friday!

How close to your childhood dreams is your life now?
When I was little, I was a little wild and crazy.  No really lol. :) When someone would ask me what I would want to be when I grew up, I would be known to spout off several different answers each time I was asked, depending on my mood.

A mom.

An Artist.

A veterinarian.

A teacher.

An author.

It was generally one of those answers. And surprisingly, as an adult, I have successfully done 4 out of 5 of those! I am a mom, an artist, an art teacher, and a modern author (I'm a professional blogger lol???).

So your answer is very close. :)

What is one must have item for the summer?
The mom in me is going to say sunscreen.

The me in me (lol) is going to say water that you can swim in. Like a pool, a lake, even a river or a ditch. I'm a country girl, I don't mind swimming in ditches lol. :P

Do you have your kids stay up on school stuff during summer vacation? (Or, if you don't have kiddos, did your parents make you keep up on school stuff during summer?)
All I have to say is, my mom is a first grade teacher. :)

So when we were kids, she TOTALLY made us keep up with school stuff during summer. My mom never had to force me to keep up with reading though. Once I could read I was reading novels all summer, and my mom would actually have to make me stop to do other things, like eating and sleeping lol. But she is still keeping up with tradition this summer with Aunt April and Uncle Kalvin especially because Uncle Kalvin just learned how to read!

And with saying that, I went to college for teaching and am an art teacher. :)

So when Alan starts to go to school (which we decided will be when he's three), we will TOTALLY help him keep up with reading and school stuff during summer.

Do you can or freeze fresh produce?
Um, we EAT fresh produce lol.

If we buy fresh produce, we only buy so much and we usually eat it within the next three days. But we do buy canned and frozen produce as well. We just let the manufactorer's do the work for us lol. I know, I know, not very hippie like. :P

Do you get ready for the day first thing in the morning?
Nope. I normally get ready for the day right before we leave the house for the first time. We normally spend like three to five hours at home, in our skivies just chilling. Lol I won't get myself ready, or Alan ready, or the diaper bag packed until about an hour before we leave.

Have an awesome weekend!! We are hoping for sunshine so we can go hiking again!! Love everyone! Peace!

Four years old...

Today would be Rosalie's fourth birthday.

That is, today is the fourth year anniversary since her due date. June 10, 2007.

I like to think of it as her birthday though. It has actually helped me with my coping process, thinking of today as a day to remember her positively instead of remembering this as a day that did not come for her. I have made piece with her passing, and some day our souls will meet again.

My family has a very interesting theory about the afterlife that we like to believe. We believe that our soul becomes a energy force that can choose to embody any and all things. Its kind of like rebirth and reincarnation, only we believe that a soul can embody many different things at one time. We like to think of Rosalie as a free spirit now, able to go wherever she pleases. She will always have a place in our hearts though, I feel like she is always with me.

I hope that wherever she is, she is at peace and she is happy.

And wherever she is, she has a happy birthday.

Today Alan, Lon and I will be releasing four pink balloons into the sky for Rosalie. I will get some pictures of course, but I do not anticipate being able to post them up here. :) But I will update how it went on here and probably post some on FB. And even though money is tight here, we donated to March of Dimes in honor of her as well. I hope Rosalie is proud of the Earth gifts we got her, I know that material things are not important to her now. But I know, in my heart, that she will be happy with us helping prevent loss of other babies, in her name.

Happy fourth birthday sweet baby girl. I love you more than anything.

Toddler Talk Thursdays!! June 9, 2011

Today will be a good day for us, I only work once today at three. I'm am glad because I have been missing out on spending time at home with Alan, just hanging out and playing. I will be able to spend most of today with my boys, just chilling. :) Unfortunately, it is a rainy day outside, so we will probably not be taking any trips out to the front yard today. But we will make the best of it! :)

I'm also very excited for tonight for two reasons! First reason is Aunt April's dance recital after I am off of work! She is preforming eleven beautiful dances and I get to also watch some of my former dance classmates and students preform. My last classmate still with the studio graduates tonight too, that'll be emotional. :) My second reason is because Alan will stay with his daddy tonight! :D I will be able to enjoy Aunt April's dances, without having to worry about him being bored. This will be my first night out without him since Lon's 23rd birthday (over 8 months ago!) so I'm pretty excited.

However, I know that after the recital I will be wishing I had him. All my former classmates and students just adore Alan, plus one of my former bosses from there has a little girl who was born the DAY before Alan. She will probably have brought her, and Alan really misses her. He doesn't hardly get to see her anymore. *Sigh* But I will just have to suck it up and show lots of pictures lol. Hopefully that will satisfy them. :P

Here's Toddler Talk Thursdays!

Sippy Cup Mom

This week's topic:
What is your toddlers current catch phrase? You know, the one they say over and over again
Hmmm, this is a hard one. Alan isn't really the type to have a "catch phrase" per say, because he always is just jabbering and saying things. But never anything "catch phrase-y" I guess.

If I had to pick something he said and did that would qualify for a "catch phrase" it would definitely be this:

"Oh no!"

He says that to just about anything that goes wrong, from something falling to someone getting hurt to something happening on the tv to even someone making a mistake. He says it all dramatically and covers his mouth when he does it too. Its really cute and funny. :)

The other day we were watching Up, and it was at the sad explanation part that always makes me cry (you know the part where they explain why the old man is the way he is, and the story of his wife). So I'm sitting there, trying to keep the tears in and sitting right next to me, Alan stands up and says, "Oh no mama, oh no!" and covers his mouth, with his other little hand on my shoulder. :) It broke me down and I started crying happy tears. My silly sweet boy!

Idea for next week's topic:
What are your plan's for your toddler's preschool education?

Stress comes in full

I haven't been posting like I should normally. I feel like I'm not posting enough. Even though I've only been missing around one post a week, I still feel like I am not adequately covering Alan's life. Lol, this is what happens when you're stressed and over thinking things. I'm worrying about a BLOG??? Really?

I still apologize for not posting at all yesterday. Monday night and all of Tuesday were very hectic and stressful for me, in more ways than one.

Monday night was really scary for us, Billings and Yellowstone County in general. There was a tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warning placed on Yellowstone County. I got home from work and we had dinner. After dinner we were putting Alan in the tub, when I got a message from an old co-worker that in FIFTEEN MINUTES there would be a tornado on the rims. We live in a second-story apartment of an old building, where the basement is its own apartment. Thus, it was locked and we could not use it as shelter.

So we ripped Alan out of the tub, threw on some clothes, grabbed anything important we might need and got the hell out of there to my parent's. I remember screaming at Lon to open the car door, as I looked at the huge ominous cloud that was now forming over the rims. I don't remember much else.

We got to my parent's and ran inside, straight downstairs. My whole family was there, and Mary too. We all sat there, huddled together on the floor, and watched the news for an hour or two.

The tornado that was supposed to form on the rims, instead formed 11 miles outside of the heights. We were missed by ELEVEN MILES! ELEVEN! Wow I cannot even begin to tell you how blessed Billings felt that night. No tornadoes touched in Billings. None!

Tuesday was a bad day for me as well. We are still struggling with finances, and they were made all the more apparent with my small paycheck I received yesterday morning. I am struggling to make enough right now to even keep our heads out of the water. Lon is still looking for a job, and is still working on those folf baskets, so there's not much we can do at this point. Just stay strong and hope the stormy weather clears soon.

On top of that though, Alan has been having biting problems at daycare and yesterday it got worse. Just this last week at daycare (the one before this) Alan started biting kids. It started out only being his best friend Korbin that he would bite. But yesterday, he bit a little girl and drew blood. She took a toy away from him and so he bit her. It is his fault, but they was unsupervised so he is not entirely in the wrong.

I was not on that side at the time, we had a TON of babies and I'm the baby gal, and the girl who was on that side is not the best supervisor. I kick myself for letting him go over there.

But now, a handful of workers are making a big deal about it. They're saying he's overly aggressive and mean. They're claiming he should be put on a care plan and things should be done. Um, I understand that this is protocol but this is a different situation. There are so many factors in this, that he shouldn't be treated like the average biting child.

First, he is still a toddler. This sounds so petty, but people have actually forgotten that he is only one year and nine months old just because of his size.  He may be the size of a two and a half year old but that does not mean he needs to have the mental capacity of one or act like one. HE IS STILL A BABY!! The little girl took his toy and so he instinctively reacted.

Second, the night before he bit that girl was very, very, VERY dramatic for him. Uhhh, remember the tornado?? He wasn't himself at all that day.

And I'll finish with third, even though there are a few other factors (but those are just common sense), he was unsupervised! If I remember correctly, the worker even asked, "What happened?" when the little girl started crying. This makes me so mad, but what's done is done. She took the toy from him and he bit her. It can't be taken back, we can only move forward.

I spoke with the director (my boss) and the CEO today and because of my input on this specific situation, his care plan is very simple. He will only be able to be on the big kid's side if I am over there and its not busy, otherwise he will stay on the baby side until he's two. If it gets busy on the baby side, then he will go in a highchair for snack or to color. But that's all.

I am just exhausted and ready for it to be the weekend lol. But I still have two more days! Oh well, we'll survive... I guess. :)
